As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, I want to highlight Mae Jemison. I am very excited that a couple weeks ago, I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Dr. Mae Jemison.
Mae Jemison is a physician and scientist who in 1992 became the first black woman astronaut in space. What an honor. I want you to take the time to read about the life of Mae Jemison, how she went to college at 16 to Stanford University, and how she’d said as a young child that she wanted to be a scientist.
So you see, dreams really do come true, but you have to prepare for them. Mae wanted to be a scientist, but throughout her life she prepared to do that. She was an excellent student. As I said, she went to Stanford. She became a medical doctor and then applied for NASA’s astronaut program, and her dream of going to space became true.
