Why You’re Not Reaching Your Goal

Jan 9, 2024 | Tip for a Terrific Tuesday

As you evaluate your goals for this year, I want you to look back at your goals for last year and see which ones were on your list that you didn’t accomplish, and then do some self-reflection and ask why did you not accomplish him? I think that it may be because of a phenomenon that I call nap, N-A-P. As I have studied human behavior for over the last 25 years, I’ve noticed that those goals that we don’t accomplish can be because we do what I call nap, N-A-P.

When a goal is established and something happens, and surely as we live things happen, maybe it’s a health goal, maybe it’s a financial goal, relationship, family goal. But when we don’t reach it, was it because we napped?

N – Narrow Minded

When a problem comes while working towards your goal, you can get really narrow minded and don’t look at other possibilities.

A – Apathetic

Sometimes we become apathetic and develop a negative attitude, and this keeps us from reaching our goal

P – Pity Party

When we allow ourselves to have a pity party and make everything about us such as – “I’m not good enough”, “I’m not worthy”, and “I really didn’t deserve it anyway” then it hinders your progress. When you’re engaging in a pitty party it causes you to procrastinate and to pause.

When we pause, what happens? We get on what I call the treadmill of life. No matter how fast you put the treadmill on, when you come outta that nap, you’re in the same place you were before. So are you napping?

When you see yourself napping, becoming narrow-minded, and not seeing possibilities becoming apathetic and having a penny party, shake yourself out of that.

And also don’t succumb to peer pressure from friends who calls you to nap. People who stop by your desk and say, “you’re not good enough” or “you can’t accomplish that.” I want you to hit the delete button in your brain and get clear on that and go back to what we’ve talked about in some previous videos. Activate your reticular activating system and get up in the morning and tell yourself what you can do.

Give yourself positive self-talk so that you don’t nap, because when you nap, you will not reach your goals.
